A stockpile of surplus structural steel that's up for sale in the West is seen as a sign of the times in a market that continues to suffer from a slump in non-residential construction.

About 8,600 tons of structural shapes and wide-flange beams, mostly the latter, are for sale out of Glendale, Ariz., at prices that market sources say in many cases represent significant discounts to prices at the mill.
