Copper imports in China slide as output hits record

China's copper imports fell in October as demand weakened and domestic production hit an all-time high.

Amid a backdrop of weaker than expected demand, imports of unwrought copper and copper-fabricated products fell to their lowest since January to 263,109 tonnes in October, down 34 percent from September but still 13 percent higher year on year, according to preliminary customs data. The volume is just a bit above the January 2009 low of 232,701 tonnes and about half the record highs seen in the second quarter.
