Further indications are emerging that price hikes for flat-rolled products are sticking, with ArcelorMittal USA Inc. raising its September prices and mills on the West Coast slating increases of at least $40 per ton.
ArcelorMittal is informing customers of its intent to increase carbon flat-rolled steel prices for September shipments, effectively putting its prices in line with those of U.S. Steel Corp., which announced an increase a day earlier.
ArcelorMittal told customers that its new prices for cold-rolled sheet would be $600 per ton ($30 per hundredweight) with base prices for hot-dip galvanized moving up to $620 per ton ($31 per cwt). The company is informing customers that its price for hot-rolled sheet will be determined at a later date, but sources said they are expecting the company's hot-rolled price to be $490 to $500 per ton ($24.50 to $25 per cwt) with an announcement to that effect expected early the week of July 6.
