John C. Bates
Chairman of the Board and CEO, Heidtman Steel Products, Inc

John C. Bates is the Chairman and CEO of Heidtman Steel Products, Inc., the largest privately held flat rolled steel processor/service center in the United States. Heidtman through its direct and joint venture facilities sells over one million tons per year and processes 4.5 million tons per year.

John attended Michigan State University and came to work full-time at Heidtman in 1963. He held various positions in the company and was named president in 1978. John purchased the company in 1983 and has maintained the controlling interest since then. Under his leadership, Heidtman and its joint venture companies have grown to $1.1 billion in revenues

He was a founding partner in Steel Dynamics Inc. and sits on its board of directors. Through the John C. Bates Foundation he is active in funding many programs especially educational programs for the financially underprivileged.

Cheryl L. Hurt
Vice President, Purchasing and Transportation, Severstal North American Inc.

Cheryl L. Hurt has been Vice President, Purchasing and Transportation since January, 2006. Ms. Hurt was Director, Purchasing and Transportation for the Company and its predecessors since August 2000 and held various accounting, finance and purchasing assignments of increasing responsibility with the company since 1987. Ms. Hurt began her career with Double Eagle Steel Coating Company, SNA’s joint venture electrogalvanizing facility, as an accountant. Ms. Hurt graduated from Lawrence Institute of Technology and Walsh College. Ms. Hurt is a Certified Public Accountant.

Christopher Plummer
Managing Director, Metal Strategies Inc.

For the past 10 years, our next speaker, Christopher Plummer has been Managing Director and Chief Steel Industry Consultant for Metal Strategies Inc., a leading international steel and metals management-consulting firm.

Chris is one of the most widely-known steel industry analysts with 23 years of experience. His previous positions include:

• Managing Director, World Steel Consulting for CRU International -London

• Managing Director, World Steel Consulting for Standard & Poor’s DRI-WEFA (now Global Insight, founded by 1981 Nobel Economics Laureate Lawrence Klein)

Jim Truman
Principal, Hill & Associates Inc.

Jim Truman is a coal market analyst for Hill & Associates, a management consulting group based in Annapolis, Maryland. He is a geologist by training and has specialized for over twenty-five years evaluating supply-side issues of the coal industry. He attended West Virginia University and the University of South Carolina and worked for a number of major coal companies early in his career.

Since joining Hill & Associates in 1990, he has been responsible for a number of regional supply studies throughout the US. Each year, he creates a database of mining cost estimates, production capacities and reserves for all metallurgical coal and a detailed report on the Central Appalachian coal industry.

Brian Habacivch
Senior Vice President — Research and Publications, Fellon-McCord

Brian A. Habacivch is the Vice President – Consulting for Fellon-McCord & Associates, Inc. (Fellon-McCord) and is a Vice President for Constellation NewEnergy – Gas Division (CNEG).

In January of 2002, Mr. Habacivch joined Fellon-McCord & Associates, Inc., as Vice President Consulting Services. Mr. Habacivch is a member of the Fellon-McCord executive team, the editor-in-chief of Fellon-McCord publications and research, and works with a team of energy analysts in delivering value-added services to Fellon-McCord’s energy-intensive clients throughout North America.

Prior to joining Fellon-McCord, Mr. Habacivch had 14 years experience in the energy industry. In 1988, he became the Senior Associate Editor for Gas Daily and Gas Markets Week, two nationally recognized natural gas-industry publications. While at Gas Daily, Mr. Habacivch was responsible for the daily, weekly, and monthly gas-price indices, coverage of the natural gas spot market, regulatory matters, and editorial content. After several years at Gas Daily, Mr. Habacivch went to work for Centran Corporation, a Louisville, KY-based natural gas marketing company where he was involved in industrial account sales and marketing. Mr. Habacivch then went to work for Sprague Energy Corp., a privately held energy marketing, petroleum and industrial-materials-handling company located in Portsmouth, NH, in the capacity of Manager, Natural Gas and Integrated Energy Marketing. For ten years at Sprague, Mr. Habacivch was responsible for the development of industrial-account natural gas marketing, major accounts, and was engaged in various aspects of liquid fuel marketing, project development, and acquisitions. Mr. Habacivch then worked for Allegheny Energy Solutions as Director, Northeast U.S. Region in a business development capacity.

Mr. Habacivch was born in Illinois, U.S., and studied liberal arts at the Pennsylvania State University and History at the University of South Carolina.

Cameron Hunt
Director - MBIO Index, Metal Bulletin

Cameron is Director – MB Iron Ore Index. Following graduation from the University of Bath with a BEng in Material Science and Engineering, Cameron has worked in the metals industries for over 10 years, in research, consulting and industry roles. He spent 4 years at MultiServ, the world’s leading supplier of mill services, including raw material handling, by product processing, scrap management and surface conditioning, in project development and business development management roles, and most recently at Hatch Beddows Strategy Consulting. Cameron has extensive experience in the creation and management of robust and rigorous business process and financial models, including global co-product sales databases and business plan modeling for major capital investments in the steel industry.

Larry Shields
RHF Plant Sales Manager, Midrex Technologies, Inc.

Mr. Shields is the latest member of the Midrex's Commercial Sales Group. Larry is responsible for promoting and negotiating new plant sales for Midrex's Rotary Hearth Furnace (RHF) technologies. He has more than 25 years experience in selling capital equipment and has a B.S. Physics degree from Western Carolina University and an MBA from University of North Carolina-Charlotte.

William Brake
Executive Vice President, Cleveland-Cliffs

William Brake joined Cleveland-Cliffs Inc in April 2007, having served as executive vice president, operations for Mittal Steel USA, with full operating responsibility for all of Mittal’s domestic steel operations. He began his career with LTV Steel, and following its acquisition by International Steel Group, was responsible for the initial re-start of the Cleveland, Ohio, facilities. He was appointed chairman and chief executive officer of Renewafuel in June 2008. Cliffs has a 70% interest in Renewafuel LLC, a producer of biomass fuel cubes.

Mr. Brake is a member of the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers, and formerly was co-chair of the Ohio Steel Industry Advisory Council. He holds a B.S. in electrical engineering and an MBA, both from Case Western Reserve University.

Robert A. Levin
Senior Vice President, Research, New York Mercantile Exchange

Robert A. Levin is the Senior Vice President of Research, and has held this position since 1993. He is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Exchange's business planning. Mr. Levin has been active in the development, maintenance, and refurbishing of all of the Exchange's energy contracts.

Mr. Levin has been among the major participants in restructuring proceedings governing the electric utility industry both at the state and federal levels. He represents the Exchange on advisory panels for the National Petroleum Council that study key industry issues. Mr. Levin was the Exchange's Vice President of Product Development from 1991 until 1993, and has been with the Exchange since 1987. Mr. Levin has a doctorate in economics from the University of New Mexico.

Gary Morsches
Principal , The Boston Consulting Group

Gary Morsches is a Principal with the Boston Consulting Group specializing in risk management, trading, and commodity markets. Gary has over 20 years experience in the energy markets including oil, natural gas, power, coal, and emissions. Prior experiences include SVP with Mirant, President of Southern Company Energy Marketing, Access Energy and Diamond Shamrock Refining and Marketing Company and was a member of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gary is a chemical engineer from the University of Dayton and has an MBA from the University of Texas - San Antonio.

Robert (Bob) Burdette
President and CEO, Eramet North America, Inc.

Graduated from West Liberty College with a Business Administration Degree in Marketing and Finance and is a third generation veteran of the metals industry in North America with over 40 years experience in operations, finance, accounting, credit administration, customer service, marketing and sales responsibilities at National Steel Corporation, Weirton Steel Corporation, Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corporation, Elkem Metals Corporation and Eramet North America.

Philip Johnson

Mr. Griscom is the Executive Director and Chief Administrative Officer of HBI Association Ltd., a not-for-profit corporation whose purpose is to promote hot briquetted iron (HBI) and to assist steelmakers in the safe handling, shipping, and storage of HBI and its effective use. HBIA has its administrative office in Matthews, NC (Charlotte area), and includes in its membership all of the major exporters of HBI. In addition, the leading companies providing process technology, equipment, raw materials, and services for the production, sales, and transportation of HBI are HBIA members. Mr. Griscom has more than 30 years of experience in industrial marketing and marketing communications. He is the author or co-author of more than 50 papers and presentations and a similar number of editorials, feature articles, position statements, and speeches on various direct reduction-related subjects. He served as editor-in-chief of Direct From Midrex for 10 years. Mr. Griscom earned a B.A. degree from the University of Chattanooga (now UT-Chattanooga) and is a member of the Association of Iron and Steel Technology.

Ted M. McQuade

Ted McQuade is Vice President, Operations and Non-Ferrous, at PSC Metals.

Before joining PSC, McQuade was Chief Executive Officer of Industrial Powder Coatings, Chief Executive Officer of Holm Industries, Inc., and President, Plastics Division, of Cooper-Standard Automotive. McQuade also spent 15 years at General Electric.

McQuade has a Bachelor’s Degree and Master of Business Administration Degree from Indiana University.

Scott Newell
CEO, Newell Recycling

Scott Newell a long time veteran of the scrap business has just entered his 50th year in the industry. He is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Newell Recycling Company of El Paso, a full service scrap plant with a shredder and non ferrous processing facilities, and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Shredder Company, LLC, El Paso, Texas, which operates an equipment manufacturing plant which makes shredding equipment and also a large capacity steel alloy foundry, which makes all types of wear and impact resistant castings.

He has been involved with shredding since the first Newell Shredder was built in 1959 and has been operating and building shredding equipment since that time. He has written numerous papers on the scrap steel and scrap non ferrous metals processing, which have been delivered in scrap industry and steel industry forums around the world.

Alan H. Price
President, American Scrap Coalition

Mr. Price has more than 20 years of experience representing clients in high-profile, complex international trade regulatory matters, including trade litigation involving public and government relations issues. In addition to being co-chair of the firm’s International Trade practice, he heads the firm’s antidumping and countervailing duty practice. He also counsels clients on bilateral and multilateral agreements, trade legislation, customs regulation, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act compliance issues, escape clause investigations and Section 301 cases.
