Aleris bullish on ’13 despite income fall

CHICAGO — Aleris International Inc.’s profits were squeezed in the first quarter amid lower sales volumes, winter weather and tight profit margins in scrap and some rolled products.

But Cleveland-based Aleris expects financial results to improve in the coming quarters as cold weather subsides and the company benefits from strength in transport and the North American building and construction sector, it said.

The start-up of the company’s wide automotive body sheet mill in Duffel, Belgium (amm.com, March 14), and its wide-coating facility in Ashville, Ohio (amm.com, March 5), should also bolster results, Aleris said.....
